We recently began supporting Ukrainian engineers in the production of medical implants for the seriously injured. In consultation with the treating physicians, they are producing the bone replacements on a voluntary basis using 3D printing.
With the 3,000 euros we provided, individual titanium implants could be manufactured for these six patients:
- A soldier suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and lost an eye. The implant replaced the missing bone in the eye socket. A further operation to insert a prosthetic eyeball will follow.
- A 50-year-old woman suffered severe injuries to both legs in a mine explosion. A shattered tibia was stabilized with the help of a 3D implant.
- In Bachmut, a soldier suffered such severe head wounds that a large portion of his shattered skull bones had to be removed. He will receive a titanium implant to restore his natural head shape.
- A 67-year-old woman suffered a serious gunshot wound to her upper arm. A specially made titanium cage was used to restore the bone structure.
- An explosion shattered a soldier's finger bone. A custom-made implant was able to replace the bone and the finger joint.
- A 26-year-old soldier was seriously injured in a mine explosion near Kherson. He received two implants to replace the destroyed skull bone.
Thanks to your donations, we were able to help these people, because the titanium powder for the implants is supplied by us. funded by donations. An implant can be manufactured for an average of 350 euros.
