Constant air raids across Ukraine are not only destroying the power supply but also making a normal school day impossible. Children often have to wait for hours in air-raid shelters when Russian bombs and missiles are approaching.
To give them a sense of normalcy and security, we put together emergency backpacks and distributed them to three children's homes and a school in Misotsch, Odessa and Poltava.
Each of the 300 backpacks is equipped with a water bottle, a lunchbox, biscuits, wipes, toys, and other useful items. These backpacks are not only practical helpers in everyday school life, but also a small comfort in what is often a distressing situation.
A welcome change of pace was a children's chess tournament in Poltava, for which we provided small prizes in the form of toys and sweets.
