Behind the Ukraine Aid Berlin are people with very personal stories. Today I would like to share mine.
When Russia's full-scale invasion changed everything in 2022, we took in three cats from Ukraine. They came from Khmelnytskyi and Kyiv – rescued and nursed back to health by local volunteers. At first, they were quiet and cautious. You could tell what they had been through, but with a lot of patience, their trust grew.
Today, they have our house firmly under their control. Our oldest cat is the unofficial doorman and carefully checks every visitor. When the doorbell rings, she's at the door faster than we are. And since 2025, a little newcomer from Ismajil has ensured that there's real play and life going on here again.
Today, Lola, Leo, Lux, and Lada are staying with us – four very different characters, each with their own story. And I've learned one thing in the process: helping isn't a one-way street. We wanted to help – and we've received so much in return.
Warm regards, Oksana Motus – Deputy Chair
