Titanium implants for six seriously injured people

We have recently been supporting Ukrainian engineers in the production of medical implants for the seriously injured. In coordination with the treating doctors, they produce the bone replacements on a voluntary basis using 3D printing.

With the 3,000 euros we provided, individual titanium implants could be produced for these six patients:

  • A soldier had suffered a serious traumatic brain injury and lost an eye. The implant replaced the missing bone in the eye socket. A further operation to insert an eyeball prosthesis will follow.
  • A 50-year-old woman suffered severe injuries to both legs in a mine explosion. A shattered shin bone was stabilized with the help of a 3D implant.
  • In Bakhmut, a soldier was so badly wounded in the head that a large part of the shattered skull bones had to be removed. He will receive a titanium implant that will restore the natural shape of his head.
  • A 67-year-old woman was seriously injured in the upper arm by a gunshot wound. The bone structure was restored using a specially made titanium cage.
  • An explosion had shattered a soldier's finger bone. A custom-made implant was able to replace the bone and the finger joint.
  • A 26-year-old soldier was seriously injured in a mine explosion near Kherson. Two implants were inserted to replace the destroyed skull bone substance.

We were able to help these people thanks to your donations, because the titanium powder for the implants is provided by us funded by donationsOn average, an implant can be manufactured for 350 euros.
