Ukraine Aid Berlin has procured a fire engine for the eastern Ukrainian village of Zirkuny. The village, located near the front line, is repeatedly targeted by Russian attacks and has therefore established a volunteer fire brigade, which until now lacked a specialized fire engine.
The delivery was made possible thanks to the active support of volunteers from the associations Meckenheim hilft and UA-DE, who transported the vehicle from Cuxhaven to Zirkuny. Our Ukrainian partner organization Initiative E+ and the Berlin Customs Agency once again handled all the necessary formalities.
Zirkuny lies a few kilometers northeast of the metropolis of Kharkiv. Since its liberation from the occupiers in the spring of 2022, the town has been a regular target of Russian airstrikes. The volunteer fire brigade therefore plays a crucial role in protecting the population.
Ukraine Aid Berlin has been organizing aid deliveries since 2014. This fire engine is the tenth that we have been able to finance with donations and deliver to Ukraine. However, the need for fire and rescue vehicles remains high, especially in the highly vulnerable areas near the front lines.
