This year, we were again able to provide 27 children suffering from the rare hereditary disease tuberous sclerosis with the vital medication Sabril. Sabril is the only effective drug that can stop epileptic seizures in tuberous sclerosis patients and prevent serious long-term damage. The supply situation in Ukraine has been dire since the beginning of the war, as the medication is scarce and expensive.
The project is supported by BILD hilft eV „Ein Herz für Kinder“ (A Heart for Children). For the second year in a row, the non-profit organization has funded a year's supply of Sabril. Together with our partner organizations on the ground, we organize the distribution and ensure that every child receives the medication.
In addition to providing medicine, hygiene products, and aid, Ukraine Aid Berlin also supplies schools. Children in Ukraine often have to spend hours in air-raid shelters to protect themselves from Russian attacks. To make their time in these underground classrooms more pleasant, we had 110 posters printed with interesting and educational topics and distributed them to eight schools.
In addition, 600 kigurumi plush suits were distributed to children in orphanages and emergency shelters in recent weeks. The fluffy overalls are very popular and bring a smile to the often bleak daily lives of the youngest war victims.
