Six seriously wounded Ukrainian soldiers received custom-made titanium implants with the support of Ukraine-Hilfe Berlin. The bone replacements were manufactured using modern 3D printing technology and enable the patients to recover quickly and return to a normal life.
These are their moving stories:
- Ivan is 23 years old and originally wanted to become an engineer. But in 2022, he volunteered to defend Ukraine. A mine explosion destroyed parts of his face. Surgeons were able to reconstruct his upper jaw using a 3D implant.
- Denys is a farmer and father of three. He could have gone abroad, but he chose to defend his country and his people. He suffered a severe head injury in a mine explosion. In Vinnytsia, he has now had a titanium plate implanted and is recovering well.
- Another soldier suffered severe facial injuries in a mine explosion. After lengthy treatment, he received a custom-made jaw joint in Zaporizhzhia in January 2025.
- Also in Zaporizhzhia, a soldier with a shattered lower jaw underwent surgery. Thanks to a custom-made titanium implant, his jaw was restored.
- In Vinnytsia, a seriously injured soldier received a custom-made skull plate. He now has a good chance of a speedy recovery.
- In February 2025, another Ukrainian defender received a titanium implant in Kyiv. The procedure was successful and his recovery is progressing well.
With €3,000, we were able to finance six individual implants. Each bone replacement costs an average of €520. Advanced medical technology and your donations make this assistance possible and give war wounded the chance for a normal life.
