During the procedures, the patients received individually manufactured 3D-printed implants to replace damaged bone. In this project, we are assisting with the procurement of the special titanium powder required for 3D printing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are the stories of people who have received an implant:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\">A soldier suffered a severe skull injury in a mine explosion in January 2024. After several months of stabilization in the hospital, a custom-made skull implant was developed and implanted. The operation was successful, and the patient has a good chance of recovery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\">Another seriously wounded soldier suffered a gunshot wound to the head in October 2023. After his health stabilized months later, a custom bone graft was implanted to restore his head anatomy. The patient was able to return to duty after the operation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\">In collaboration with dentists, an implant suitable for dentures was developed for a patient who suffered severe jaw injuries. This implant will restore the full function of his jaw.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\">In a complex operation, surgeons were able to implant a titanium bone cage to replace a soldier&#039;s shattered forearm bone. The procedure restored the arm&#039;s stability and function.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\">For a wounded soldier who was at risk of amputation, two titanium implants were manufactured to replace shattered toe bones. Thanks to these implants, amputation was avoided, and the patient is preparing to return to active duty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ukraine Aid Berlin continuously supports the production of medical implants for severely injured and critically wounded people. The bone replacements are custom-made for each patient by Ukrainian engineers in close consultation with the treating surgeons. An implant costs an average of 530 euros.
